Say goodbye to training for a few days!

We headed north to San Francisco on Saturday. Our first stop was the Castro District, then after seeing several sites in the city, we crossed into Marin County and checked out some coastline.

I just love the hills in San Francisco.

Castro Street. No trip to the Bay Area is complete without a stop here.

Where else can you see a huge Jade plant
growing in the sidewalk? I do love this place.

Here is the arboretum outside the de Young Museum in Golden Gate Park. The de Young has a decent collection, but after being in New York for a few years, I am afraid I am a bit jaded.

The next part of the day was spent at the Hagiwara Tea Garden, also in Golden Gate Park. I separated the images for there so as to make the page sized manageable.

Golden Gate north approach.
I like this oft-overlooked view.

We stopped on our way
north to take some photos.

This is Muir Beach, as seen from the hiking trail going south along the coastline. I don't know what this plant is, but it's pretty.

Same trail, looking the other way.

Here's the Muir Beach Overlook, which is just north of the beach proper.

I love this place. Absolutely
unparalleled view of the area.

Very well maintained, the walk it is quite safe.

Here's the view back to Muir Beach. You can barely make out the trail that we were on in the pictures above. It is cut into the mountainside fairly close to the water.

This was taken from the very highest point of the promontory. You aren't supposed to be up there and I could see why: The fall to my left was immediate and deadly.

Same spot, shifting my view up and right to catch the setting sun. This is a nice shot, but the digital camera just doesn't get the sunset hues like my Minolta Maxim 400si.

Our last stop: Stinson Beach. It is a long, wide beach. It reminds me of Santa Monica, but with fog.

A couple of years ago a shark attacked a swimmer in shallow water here. First time in many years that has happened

So that wraps up Day One of the weekend. It was pretty drizzly, but we saw a lot of neat stuff, not the least of which was Route 1 itself. It is a winding, narrow road that clings to the mountainsides as you go up and down the coast through most of California. This part of it is very pretty.

On to Day Two!
